Get That Promotion: When you want to perform better, Hydration matters!

We all know how important water is for basic bodily functions, but what if we told you it could help you get that long-awaited promotion at work? Water not only keeps you fuller for longer and carries oxygen to all your cells, it also perks up brain activity too!

Dehydration (as little as 2%) has a negative effect on your brain and body performance, reduces motivation, increases fatigue and alters the body temperature control, making every task more difficult.

Keeping your water levels at an optimum level at work strongly influences your brain capacity and function. A recent study conducted on both men and women with a fluid loss of as little as 1.36%, revealed increased fatigue, anxiety and a worsening of working memory. The studies show that being even a little bit dehydrated can decrease your capacity to focus and stay on top of your to-do list. Drinking a glass of water before you sit down to power through meeting preparations or important work can assist you with focus and energy levels to complete tasks without needing as many breaks.

The other water related issue that affects people at work is headaches. Often, these are easily prevented by making sure you are hydrated enough in the first place. Headaches and migraines at work can mean time off and will definitely have a negative impact on the work you’re trying to get through, leading to tasks piling up and a feeling of complete overwhelm.

The bottom line is very obvious: water is important throughout the day, but especially at work when you’re pushing towards a goal. People are seemingly unaware of how dehydrated they actually are, and would probably perform so much better if they just squeezed in a few extra glasses of h2O everyday.

Try to work out how many glasses of water you’re getting in a day and then up it if need be, especially if you feel that your motivation and energy is lacking at work.
